What's Cookin': January, 2014 (Part 2)

MexiBBQ (1633 Second Ave, 212-837-8285, MexiBBQ.com) has officially launched brunch at it’s Upper East Side location. Dig into Southern BBQ that mingles with Mexican—resulting in such things as BBQ brisket eggs benedict with jalapeño goat cheese cornbread.
Should you be in the mood for Mexican-Taiwanese, hightail it to recently opened Lucky Luna (167 Nassau Ave, LuckyLuna-NY.com) in Greenpoint. The folks who opened the inventive joint have headed east from San Francisco’s restaurant scene and base the fare on street foods from Oaxaca and Taipei further flavored with other tastes of South America and Asia. Expect such items as duck (of course), dulce de leche rice bowls and fruity cocktails.
1200 Miles (31 W 21st St, 212-510-8722, 1200MilesNYC.com) is now offering a lunchtime respite for office-types in the Flatiron District. The cuisine spans French, Spanish and Algerian cuisine with Mediterranean touches tucked in there too. Sit down to a classic Israeli sabih with eggplant, hardboiled eggs and tahini stuffed in pita bread, short rib burgers with fontina cheese on pretzel buns, lamb and apricot tajine and Niçoise salads.
A collaboration between Pop Burger and the Pod Hotels, the Pop @ Pod (230 E 51st St, 646-277-2900, PopBurger.com) gastropub has opened its doors in Midtown East. Knock back craft brews and tequila drinks with some sliders and mussels. Renting a room is optional.
