A chance encounter in the woods with Madonna outed this cabaret singer.

Cabaret darling Justin Daniel makes his return to the stage with “Officially Alive,” a one-man show about his road towards gay fatherhood. How perfect, then, that the moment he realized he was gay brought him closer to his father during a hunting trip.
“My dad is the most liberal redneck in Georgia, so naturally he loves to hunt and fish, makes moonshine in a shed behind his house, and avidly watches Rachel Maddow. When I was 12, he took me on my first hunting trip. We woke up at 4am, hiked through the woods and waited for what seemed like an eternity.
After a cold morning of shivering on a damp tree stump, a large buck—the ultimate prize—comes sauntering in the distance. My dad immediately perks up and nudges my shoulder, indicating it’s time for me to slay my first deer. This is it! The moment he’s been waiting for. What he sees instead is his son intensely reading People Magazine. When he finally gets my attention, I look into his eyes and say, ’Dad, give me a minute while I finish this article on Madonna,’ which literally translates into: ‘Dad, I’m completely gay.’
We left the woods that day without a deer, but with a transformed relationship. My dad proudly tells this story to anyone who will listen. You see, for my dad the disappointment at not having a son who loves to hunt was only replaced with the pride of telling everyone, ‘I am a dad to a gay!’”
