Jeera Rice and Raitha

Raitha (Yogurt with Cucumber and Onion) Ingredients: 

4 oz low fat yogurt

¼ medium onion, chopped

¼ small cucumber, chopped

¼ medium tomato, chopped

8 cilantro leaves

4 mint leaves

A pinch of chat masala powder

Salt to taste

Procedure: 

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl, wrap in plastic and place in refrigerator while preparing the rice.

Jeera Rice Ingredients: 

2 cups basmati rice

1 Tbsp butter or ghee (clarified butter)

¼ tsp salt

1 Tbsp jeera (cumin seeds)

¼ tsp cardamom powder

¼ bunch cilantro

Procedure:

In an electric rice cooker, soak two cups of basmati rice in three cups of water for about 20 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and switch on the cooker. It turns off when done! Serve hot with chilled raitha. Garnish with slices of remaining onion, cucumber and tomato.
