Great American Songbook, Somethin’ Real Special and Original Broadway Cast Recording: Matilda

Somethin’ Real Special Philip Chaffin

Leave it to Philip Chaffin, the acclaimed singer-actor who co-founded PS Classics with his partner Tommy Krasker, to record the first male solo album of songs by lyricist and savvy sophisticate Dorothy Fields. After sifting through hundreds of Fields’ lyrics, Chaffin selected 17 songs, many of them rarities, to which he lends his beautiful and charismatic tenor on this superb fourth solo disc. Great American Songbook - The King’s Singers

Long acclaimed as one of the most accomplished a cappella vocal ensembles in the world, the six-member group The King’s Singers have turned their sights on the likes of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and Rodgers & Hart with gorgeous results. Their Great American Songbook, a lavish two-disc set of timeless classics with terrific arrangements by Alexander L’Estrange, is wonderful. (Signum Classics/Naxos)

Original Broadway Cast Recording - Matilda the Musical

Fans who have had to make do with the London cast recording of Matilda the Musical will be thrilled to know the Broadway cast recording of this Tony-winning show is now available at long last. With a score by Australian composer Tim Minchin, the new disc features all four girls who played Matilda (Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro), plus two additional bonus tracks.
