Carry for a Cause

A rundown of the parties, promoters, and DJs turning it out for charity at Eastern Bloc’s East Village benefit.

The East Village is still reeling from the explosion that rocked Seventh Street in March, injuring 19 and leaving many New Yorkers without homes. “I live three blocks from where it all happened,” says promoter Frankie Sharp. “Those are my neighbors and friends. The whole thing is so surreal and definitely puts you in check.”

Sharp and DJ Sammy Jo have partnered with Eastern Bloc owner Darren Dryden to organize a benefit for the victims of the explosion. They reached out to seven different parties and asked them each to take over a one-hour time slot for I Love the East Village, proceeds from which will aid East Villagers affected by the explosion. Here’s a look at the parties, DJs, and personalities involved in this turn up for a good cause.

I Love the East Village at Eastern Bloc, 505 E Sixth St (btwn Aves A/B), May 31 from 3pm–10pm; $10. Visit easternblocnyc.com for more info.
